Newark, DE - The Brookdale women's volleyball team had a long day on the road with back-to-back five-set matches their in tri-match against the Delaware Technical Community College Spirit and the Lackawanna College Falcons.
In match one, Del-Tech squeaked past the Brookdale women's volleyball team in a hard-fought 3-2 loss. The Spirit took the first two sets, 17-25, 22-25, before the Jersey Blues rallied and took the next two sets, 25-14, 25-22. The fourth set win forced the Spirit into a match-deciding fifth set to an unfortunate 12-15 loss for Brookdale.
Freshman outside hitter, Gemma Ferris, led the Jersey Blues by chalking up 22 kills as freshman setter Bella McKelvey posted six kills and nine serving aces. Sophomore outside hitter Alana Pytel had 12 huge kills in the battle.
Brookdale was put to the five-set test again in match-2. The Jersey Blues were able to hold off the Lackawanna College Falcons in a 3-2 nail-biting win to split their tri-match with scores of 31-29, 25-22, 17-25, 17-25, 15-12. Freshman outside hitter, Gemma Ferris, recorded a season-high 30 kills while adding three serving aces, and three blocks for a total 36.5 points. Sophomore outside hitter, Alana Pytel, struck for a season-high clutch 15 kills as well. Sophomore middle blocker, Amanda Demeo, donated seven kills and three blocks in the triumph.
Brookdale (9-2) will host the Passaic County College Panthers on Monday, October 6th, at 7:00pm in the Robert J. Collins Arena.
